Summary
The episode starts off as L and the Police force discuss Naomi Misora. She has been missing for two months now and her body never showed up. But, just in the middle of the conversation, Watari walks in and tells them to turn on Sakura T.V. Sakura T.V. is announcing that they are being held hostage unless they air certain tapes. Furthermore, to prove that these tapes were really from Kira, they announced the deaths of two criminals, who died at the exact time which was predicted, convincing L of the authenticity as well. The tape starts, stating that it is not 5:59pm exactly when it should be aired and that Kazuhiko Hibima on Taiyo T.V will die at this time. L has the men switch the channel, and exactly as predicted this person dies. L asks them to bring another television and hook it up. In this time, the tape continues, saying that the next target will be a commentator from NHN, Seiji, who opposed them. Like last time, on channel 24, this person dies. L, states that they have to stop the broadcast now. Ukita runs out of the door to Sakura T.V. to stop it, since Matsuda can’t reach them by phonelines. In the background, the tape plays, stating that Kira (himself) agrees with Justice and that everything he does it towards this justice. Instead of fighting, people should support him.
At the hospital, Yagami Soichiro is watching as well, though Sachiko turns off the television in the middle of the broadcast. Ukita, reaching Sakura T.V. tries tries to open the door, but instead he has a heart attack, which is broadcasted on the television. Seeing this, Aizawa wants to run to Sakura T.V. but L tells him not to since it would be like throwing his life away. Aizawa, being the idiot that he is (heh) tries to argue with L, saying that they all agreed to risk their lives to arrest Kira. L tells him that risking his life and doing something that would rob him of his life are totally different things. He then goes on to say that Ukita is dead, and he doesn’t want Aizawa to die as well. The message of Kira is now asking about the police, and whether or not they will help him in establishing a world of Justice. Out of nowhere, a truck crashes into Sakura T.V., which we find out is driven by Yagami Soichiro. He goes into Sakura T.V. and demands Damegawa to hand over the tapes and copies of the tapes. Watching the broadcast of the truck, L tells Aizawa to call the deputy chief Kitamura. Kitamura picks up his phone, thinking it is Aizawa, but in actuality it is L.
L tells Kitamura that action must be taken because more officers will be driven to act on their own and unless they do something they will die. At that very moment, two other officers, who came towards Sakura T.V. collapse, and the announcer, scared of this reoccurance, decides to step away from Sakura T.V to a safer location. Kitamura agrees, and at that moment, Yagami calls L, who tells him to hold a moment, and switches to Kitamura on the other line. In the next moment, we see Yagami walk outside slowly, finding a huge police blockade, where the police are wearing masks and have shields. This way, Kira isn’t able to see them, and there is the television news then goes on to announce that obviously the police will stand up against Kira. Now back at headquarters, Soichiro gives L the tapes, who examines the envelope from Osaka. L tells them to rest, and watches the rest of the tapes. The next morning, when they come in, L explains that Kira wanted the police to participate in his justice by announcing names of criminals and helping. Whatever their answer was, yes or no, an according tape was to be aired. Also, in order for the police to show their sincerity, the police force was to show their faces on television, including L. This way, if they acted strange, Kira could simply kill them off. The “no” tape, on the other hand, said basically the same thing, and could be broadcasted. It explained that since the police decided to say no, they would have to decide who would be sacrificed for the new world, L, or the rest of the police.
Zooming back to the Yagami household, Light watches this broadcasting of the “no” tape, laughing to himself. He says that God is definetly on his side, since another Shinigami has come down to the human world, and there is a second Kira who has greater powers than him (since he has shinigami eyes). This Kira could be helpful or dangerous, since obviously this new Kira supports Kira, but if he messes up he could get caught and leak out information. In either case, Light has to capture this Kira. Meanwhile, L, eating cake, tells the police that there is a second Kira. He explains that this Kira used small time criminals that were only announced in womens magazines and had a low quality tape. It was also obvious that this Kira had greater powers than the original, and by catching this one, they could gain some information to catch the real Kira. L says to Yagami Soichiro that he wants Lights’ help on the matter. He tells him that is okay, as long as Light wants to, and L convinces them that they should keep the deduction about the second Kira a secret. The episode then ends by concentrating on a new shinigami, Rem, flying through the sky. Rem asks a girl, Misa, why she doesn’t use the Death Note for herself. Misa tells Rem that she likes Kira and wants to know who he is by meeting him. This is why she sent those tapes the the station, and that even if worse comes to worse, she has the eyes, which makes her stronger than Kira.
Differences
Ideas
- I really like the fact that everything seemed much more action oriented in this episode. There was a lot of suspense and and music really added to it. Misa’s voice is very interesting.
- I didn’t like how Light looked towards the end of the episode watching this entire thing. It seemed much more evil and his face said “heh what is this?” in the manga in amusement. But this seems more like I dunno…
