Summary
Light is called by his dad, who tells him that Ryuuzaki has invited him to join the police force. Light looks at Ryuk, who is eating an apple, and tells him that he must find the fake Kira before the police force does. When he meets L and the police force in the secret headquarters, L tells him to look through all the evidence they gathered on Kira, along with the unbroadcasted Kira videotapes and tell him what he thinks. We then see a flashback of the previous night, where L tells the police force that he wants Light to join and confirm his deduction that there is a second Kira. Hence, when he watches the video, Light should be able to figure this out. Matsuda though, is a bit confused since he believes that the only reason L had deduced a second Kira was because the criminals who were killed were minor ones. However, L says that it wasn’t the only piece of evidence, since this Kira didn’t require a face and name to kill unlike the original Kira. When Light looks at the tape, and if he also deduces that there is a second Kira, then most of the suspicion around him will be lifted, but Soichiro questions this. L tells him that Kira wants to kill L no matter what, meaning that in three days he will have to stand in front of the T.V. and Kira will kill him. When Yagami asks, L tells him that even if Light doesn’t deduce this, his suspicion will remain under 5%. Now, zooming back to the room, Light figures that there is something weird going on with everyone’s reaction, and he shouldn’t say anything out of the ordinary since L will die anyways. When L asks Light what is the matter, Light confirms L’s deduction of a second Kira and gives them the same reasons that L did. When Light accuses L of just testing him, L says that he wasn’t doing so, since him agreeing also confirms his theory and makes it more believable. In either case, they are going to fabricate a message for Kira’s reply and Light would be the one to write it. Ryuk finds it funny, while Light just gets pissed off. Light gives L the message, but he tells him to take out the “I don’t care if you kill L” part since he would die. Light laughs at this, and says of course, and whatever edits he wants can be made. The message is broadcasted on the evening news, while Misa is happy. The message basically states that the other broadcasted message was not from himself Kira but from someone else who wishes to be supportive of him, and should not act in such a manner. A few days later, a reply is sent from Misa that thanks Kira for the reply and agrees to the fabricated message’s terms. Basically Misa as the second Kira says that she wants to meet Light Kira, and she won’t kill him even when she has the eyes. Light, listening with the police force, gets annoyed since this Kira is saying so much, and then the video states that when they meet they can confirm by showing each others’ shinigami. At the mention of Shinigami, L falls of the chair and has a weird spasmic attack in shock from the existance of Shinigami. He wonders if he should accept such a thing, but Light tells him that there is no way shinigami exist. L, though, tells him that the original Kira mentioned shinigami in the prisoner’s notes. Yagami steps up and suggests that it might mean that this reply came from the original Kira, but Light tells him it can’t be so since the original Kira would never reply to a fabricated message, which L agrees to. L says that the second Kira is acting out of his own desires, while Light suggests that the word “shinigami” probably refers to their power to kill. L says this might be true, but what is definite is that both Kira’s have “shinigami” in common, whatever it might mean, and from now on they will leave it to the second and first Kira, watching their movements. L knows that the real Kira would probably would want to get in touch with the second Kira, and would reply probably, and if he doesn’t, then the second Kira might reveal something more and through capturing him, they would be able to capture Kira. In the meanwhile, Misa is at a photo shoot, and while she is lying on the bed, she asks Rem about the death notes and where Rem got the Death Note that Misa has. Rem tells Misa that she is one of the few people who knows how to kill a shinigami, since she happened to be there when one of them died. When Misa asks how, Rem tells her that the way to kill a shinigami is by making them fall in love. Jealous, the shinigami, fell in love with a human, and when the day of her death came around, Jealous watched to see the death. The girl was walking alone in night and a stalker came to her with a knife, confessing his love for her. But, the girl refused and she was about to be attacked when Jealous wrote the name in the notebook and the man died of a heart attack. At that moment, Jealous also died, since he extended the girl’s lifespan by killing that man. At the end of the story, Misa states that it was Jealous who had saved her that one time, and Rem tells her that it is true, and this is why the notebook belongs to Misa. Misa wonders if the real Kira knows this, and since Kira hadn’t sent her a reply, maybe she should send another message. At a cafe, Light is thinking about what he should do, while Misa walks and sits a couple places behind Light, wondering what Kira is like.
Differences
- The cafe scene at the end of the episode never happened in the manga.
Ideas
- I like how they displayed Jealous’s death and all, it was really dramatic and fit really well.
