Summary
The episode begins with Rem telling the new owner of the Death Note to kill off criminals in a certain manner, and in return, he will get to do whatever he likes with the notebook afterwards. This is, as Rem thinks to himself, part of Light’s Plan.
Back at headquarters, L tries to convince Yagami Soichiro that he doesn’t have to keep doing this to himself (being locked up). Of course, he replies back saying that he can do nothing else if Light is imprisoned for being Kira. L acknowledges this and switches to Light, who tells him that he isn’t Kira, despite L insisting that the reason the criminals stopped dying is because he is Kira. Of course, L is actually still testing Light, as he knows that if Light was Kira, he would have known that the criminals had started to be killed. Then, L checks up on Misa, who also seems to be at her limits. Aizawa tells L that the killings have started again, and hence Light can’t be Kira and should be released. L of course, hasn’t really established anything and claims that the only thing he realized is Amane’s outstanding love for Light. Aizawa, though, basically tells Ryuuzaki that it’s already been 50 days and there is no reason to carry this on anymore. L is quiet for a while, and then says that he understands. Within the next moment, Light’s dad is ringed in, and L tells him about a plan of his, which he wants to get his opinion on.
Three days later, Misa is in Yagami’s car, and says that she remembers about the second Kira suspicions. Next, they meet with Light, who is amazed to see his dad. He tells him to get into the car, and Light is under the impression that they are probably free now. However, Yagami totally ignores this and says that it is just the opposite. They are actually going to be executed for being Kira and the second Kira. He tells Light that the killings didn’t stop, so L decided to execute them in order to stop the killings, and the execution would take place in secret. Light, naturally, is totally suprised, and says that this isn’t like L at all, especially when there is no proof. Soichiro then announces that they are there, driving the car off of the road, in a remote area. Light wonders what is happening, and his dad tells him that he is going to him and then himself. Misa tries to argue with this, but Light’s father insists that he has responsibilities as a officer and son, and he will die here, despite their whining. He cocks his gun at Light’s head saying that they are both murderers going to hell, and a gun shot is heard, with Misa screaming “stop” at the top of her lungs.
But, it was a blank. Yagami sighs in relief, saying that he did it to free them, and Ryuuzaki agrees in his brilliant performance, saying that if Light was Kira he would have killed his own parent in that situation. So, hence, he would release them, but under certain circumstances; Misa would be able to return to a normal life but would still be under suspicion due to the video tapes, and Light would be under surveillance 24/7. Back at headquarters, L handcuffs Light to him, although Misa argues with him about doing on dates and other things. L asks Misa about Aoyama and how Light and Misa met, to which Misa tells him that she did go to Aoyama on the 22nd, and knew Light’s name, although she doesn’t know why, falling in love with him at first time. Furthermore, when L questions her about Light being Kira, she says that it would be amazing if that were the case and make her love him even more, since she is grateful to Kira for killing off her parent’s murderers. L tells Misa that Matsuda will be her manager under the fake name “Matsui”. Of course, they argue some more, but in the midst of it, Aizawa gets pissed off about not being serious and kicks Misa out. After Misa leaves, L tells Light that Misa loves him a lot and he coul get lots of information, but Light says that he will not a girl find out more about the second Kira, even for the investigation. L is really suprised, since it seems like Light’s personality has totally changed, and he thinks that it might be a possibility that they might have been manipulated.
Now getting back to the case, Light suggests to move hotels in order to keep everything a secret. L though, is far ahead of him, and says that he went ahead and began construction on a huge 23 story building with a helicopter landing pad and so forth. They are all amazed, and L tells him that it is worth it for the case. Light agrees with him, saying that he will do everything possible to catch Kira as well, at which L once again tries to suggest him using Misa, which Light blatantly refuses since it is against his honor. L cringes, saying that it is a pity.
In some random place, the Yotsuba company is meeting about who to kill next in order to make their company move forward. Takahashi, the blonde one with some facial hair, asks why Kira has suddenly moved from killing like he did before to assasinations. He is suddenly rebuked by another member, Higuchi, stating that he probably wants to make money from this, and if he is too stupid, he could get killed. Then, another one (the most handsome one I think), brings out the statistics of their company growth, saying that their salaries have multiplied. To this, the member on his right thinks that it is strange that Kira would only help one enterprise, which means that out of all eight of them, one must be Kira. It is here that we are given all of their names: Takahashi Eiichi, Higuchi Kyousuke, Ooi Takeshi, Namikawa Reiji, Kida Masahiko, Midou Shingo, Hatori Arayoshi, and Shimura Suguru. Higuchi goes back to topic, questioning who they will kill next.
The camera then zooms to Rem, standing behind one of their chairs, thinking to herself how humans are such ugly creatures.
