Summary
This episode begins as Aizawa’s struggles with the new building’s security systems. When he gets inside, he meets with Yagami and Mutsuda, and asks where Ryuuzaki is, only to be told that he is on a date with Light and Misa, as seen on the security cameras. In the room, Misa is complaining about this so called “date” while Ryuuzaki simply wants to have her cake. Soon enough, this transforms itself into a light argument, until Light asks Ryuuzaki why he doesn’t seem to be motivated about the case anymore. Ryuuzaki confirms this notion, and says that he is actually depressed. He tells Light that the only way to think about the case is to believe that Misa and Light were controlled by Kira but the killings started again after Light and Misa’s imprisonment, leading him to believe that Kira’s powers can be passed on. Light thinks this may be true, but it would mean that catching Kira is impossible, which L agrees with, confessing that this would make the entire case useless. Despite this, Light tells him that he should still be motivated, which L still refuses, saying that chasing after Kira would accomplish nothing but endanger their own lives.
Suddenly, Light stands up and punches L across the face, saying that he shouldn’t give up so easily since innocent people died. L says that he knows this, but kicks Light in the face, sending them flying across the room once more. He simply states that he was disappointed that that Light and Misa weren’t Kira, and this is, after all, just a human feeling. Light, wiping his mouth, expresses that L won’t be satisfied unless he was Kira, to which L concurs. When he reveals that he wants Light to be Kira, Light sends a punch straight in the middle of his face, only to be kicked hard by L once more. Suddenly, as they prepare to battle out again, the phone rings, and L picks it up thinking it might be something important, only to find out it is another of Matsuda’s idiocies about Misa winning some award.
Two days later, Light asks L to come look at the computer, showing him a list of deaths done by heart attacks that are done by the Yotsuba company. These deaths were all beneficial to the company, increasing their stocks, and L thinks that it is really interesting, and it sounds like Kira. Zooming to Yotsuba’s meeting, they are dicussing how unconspicious the deaths are, keeping Yotsuba out of suspicion. They talk about some guys who died of heart attacks, even though they had specified their death as an “accident,” realizing that there are limits to the death scenarios. Back at the security building, Yagami tells the group about Kira threatening to kill politicians if the police don’t stop hunting him down. making the police stop hunting Kira. He tells Aizawa and Matsuda that they can resign from the police force if they like, since it would be impossibly to hunt Kira while being a police officer. L tells th em to return to the police force, and Light will stay with him until they stop Kira. Yagami argues with him, saying that everyone has risked their lives. To this, L agrees that it is their choice then, to which Yagami and Matsuda are glad to stay. Aizawa, however, is hesitant, because he would be unemployed. When he asks L if he could come at his free time, L cruely tells him no, since he doesn’t want any information going out, but he is free to hunt Kira as an individual officer if he so pleases. He understands Aizawa’s decision, since he has a family and would be throwing that away. Suddenly, Watari, tunes in, and asks L why he isn’t telling them that he, Ryuuzaki, had set aside financial support for them for the rest of their lives, just in case of unemployment. L, however, tells Watari that he only says what is needed. Matsuda gets excited and turns to an angry Aizawa. Aizawa asks Ryuuzaki if he was testing him, and L confirms this, saying that this is true. Aizawa then decides that he will quit, and he understands Ryuuzaki and all of his methods. L though, tells Aizawa that although this might be true, he likes his methods. At this Aizawa walks out of the door, L quietly thanks him for his ahrd work.
A while later, L and the rest of the group are discussing the building suspicions on the Yotsuba corporation. L says that they need to investigate by examining Yotsuba thorougly. Mogi gives L all the employee information, consisting of 300,000 people. When Matsuda asks if he can help in any way, L tells him to get coffee for him and their guests, stretching his arm behind them. Everyone is amazed, wondering how they got in there, and who they are. L proclaims that they are new members. At this, the two walk forward to introduce themselves: Aiba, a con-artist, and Wedy, a thief. L explains that they will use Aiba’s skills to investigate within the corporations, while Wedy can break security. Yagami is a bit suprised about using criminals, but L explains that they are from the underworld, not the kind that Kira can judge. Light comprehends L’s decision, saying that in order to investigate Yotsuba, they will need these type of people as well.
In a park, Aizawa sits quietly on a bench, where is he shortly met by his daughter, wife, and baby. When asked, he explains that he gets a break every week, so they could go out together. But, in the middle of his sentence, he begins to cry, still grasping onto his daughter.
