Summary
This episode begins in what looks like a cabin, where Soichiro is standing outside, wondering what to do next, as he watches his wife pushing a silent Sayu in a wheel chair. Zooming out of the beautiful outside scenary, we see a close-up of Ryuk, who slowly heads towards the apples on the table, only to find Shidoh standing in the room. When Ryuk flies outside, Shidoh follows him, asking him to return the notebook, but Ryuk tells him to find it himself since he doesn’t know where it is at the moment. Back at the headquarters, Aizawa tells everyone about Wammy’s house, which is an orphanage thats sole purpose is to find gifted children to become the successor of L. Among these orphans, the one that stood out was “Near”, which Light immediately thinks to probably be “N”. Matsuda, grabbing the information, also mentions a boy named Mello who was closely behind Near. Light concludes that Near is “N” of the SPK, and Mello is the same Mello that Near had suspected, which wanted to get the notebook to prove himself. Aizawa tells Light that they don’t have photos of the two boys, and instead presents him with some drawings of their profiles. Heading back to his room, Light thinks to himself that he has to find the location of the mafia which Mello is apart of, and for this, he already has Misa looking at the list of the members with her Shinigami. Back at the room, Misa enthusiastically informs Light that she finally found a mafia member whose life-span she couldn’t see: Number 105, Kal Snydar.

Light then thinks to himself that he used the notebook to control Kal Syndar to send him the address of their whereabouts, which turn out to be in Los Angelas. Light, quite proud of himself, burns the address after memorizing it, telling Misa, who is dressed in lingerie that he loves her. However, in the background, we see Shidoh look over the burning piece of paper, and then happily fly away. Arriving at the headquarters, Shidoh decides to let the group see him. To do this, he grabs the notebook out of Mello’s hands (who is quite suprised, after all, a notebook just magically flew out of his fingers), and tosses it to Snydar. Suddenly, Snydar falls out of his chair, pointing at Shidoh, who tells him that he is a shinigami and if everyone else touches the notebook can see him too. Hence, they all touch the notebook at the same time, and try to shoot Shidoh, but that is no use.

In Light’s apartment, Light tells Ryuk that he is giving up the ownership of his notebook, and for Ryuk to follow whoever the new owner is. Then, he asks for Misa’s notebook, telling her that he will tear out any pages she needs to carry on the role of Kira. When Misa tries to ask what he is trying to do, Light tells her that he’ll explain since no mistakes can be made in his plan. Zooming back to the mafia’s location, Shidoh tells the group that Light’s made up rules are fake. Mello immediately connects this to Kira, asking himself if Kira knew that these rules were fake, especially the 13 day rule, which could potentially prove his innocence after 13 days. Mello tells Shidoh to patrol outside, scaring him a bit. At the cabin in the beginning, “Kira” calls Soichiro, asking him if the notebook they had in the headquarters is now in the hands of criminals. Kira tells them that he will send them his own notebook, and on November 10, 11:59, all the members of the Mafia that he knows of will die, giving them an excellent chance to get the notebook back. The force, decides to go along with the plan when they get the notebook, now able to see Ryuk. Soichiro suprises everyone by volunteering to recieve Shinigami eyes, and agreeing to die in 13 days according to that rule.

November 10th, 11:47pm. After Light asks everyone if they are ready, he tells Yagami to make the deal with the shinigami. Yagami makes the deal, staring at the criminals photos, and Light tells him to move out as soon as the names disappear. As soon as this happens, Mello knows that this is Kira’s doing, and wonders what Shidoh is doing. Shidoh, however, is kept quiet by Ryuk who tells him not to interfere if he wants his notebook back. In the building, Mello runs through, telling Skinner to grab the notebook that is under Roy’s body. Once they grab it, they run after Mello but are hit with smoke bombs, allowing Light’s group to get the notebook. When they tell Light that they already have the notebook and are leaving, he tells them to go look for Mello first, since he is probably still lurking in the building. When looking, a sudden explosion is seen, and Mello warns them not to come any closer or else he will blow the entire building. When Yagami comes in, Mello tells him that he probably should have killed him when he had the chance. Yagami, having the shinigami eyes, spells out Mello’s name: Mihael Keehl. He tells him to give up by dropping his gun, and if he does he will live (angering Light). Taking out the notebook, he warns him to do as he says, or else he will write his name down. Mello tells him that he is sorry because he really didn’t want to kill him, and just ask he asks Yagami if he has actually ever killed anyone, Jose, a person in the background, shoots him in the back. But, by the time Jose grabs the notebook, the rest of the task force comes in and shoots him down. Mello simply stares for a while, and then detonates the bomb.

A while later, they report to L that everyone is okay, but Mello isn’t to be found, meaning that he got away. At the hospital, Light tells his dad that he is counting on him. Yagami, dying, tells Light that he is happy that he isn’t Kira, since he can see his life-span with his Shinigami eyes. Light thinks that everything is good but there are most important things at stake and asks Yagami if he wrote Mello’s name in the notebook. At this, Light reminds himself that he must be careful on how he presents himself, since its not too late to write down Mello’s name. At this, he pulls out the notebook from his jacket, putting the pen in his father’s hand, telling him to write Mello’s name in the notebook, screaming like a maniac. Suddenly, Yagami’s eyes close, and he is pronounced dead, in the midst of a screaming and crying Light.

Everyone touches the notebook outside, and Light gives Shidoh back the notebook. Ryuk tells himself that all humans who use the notebook end up miserable, and Soichiro himself having used the notebook, died happy thinking that Light wasn’t Kira.

Differences

  • The entire incident with the US President was removed. Mello never forced the President to do as he asked. Light never got in contact with the President to help to Mello, and the President’s anti-terrorist team never attempted to storm Mello’s base, where they failed thanks to Shidoh playing guard.
  • The scene where Mello contacts the group and asks who they set as the new L is removed.
  • How Shidoh found the base was changed. In the manga, he goes to back to the shinigami world to search the human world from above. In the manga, he sneaks in on Light and Misa.
  • The Misa lingerie scene was changed. In the manga, Light comes in, gets the info about Kal Snyder, and then quickly leaves, failing to even really notice Misa or what she was wearing. In the anime, he sat with her while burning the address, and tell her he loves her.
  • The scene where Light’s mom and dad decide to take Sayu and move out to the country is removed.
  • Any scenes with Near are removed, including when Near confirms to Light that he is Near and the one behind the notebook situation was most likely Mello.
  • In the manga, Light suspects that Matsuda will be the one to trade for the eyes with Ryuk, and Matsuda is the first to volunterr, but then everyone is surprised with Soichiro decides to do it instead. In the anime, Soichiro immediatley volunteers, and Matsuda suggests he do it instead afterwards.

Ideas

  • Wtf was with all the changes? With this many changes, it ruins character development, and especially with the president, much what happens afterwards will be a blur.
