The summary of episode thirty, written by Hana.

Basic Information

  • Episode: 31 (Transfer)
  • Characters: Ryuk, Near (and team), Mello, Misa, Light (and team), Demegawa
  • New Characters: Mikami Teru
  • Number of Deaths: 5.

Summary
Mello bites through yet another chocolate bar as he watches how the attack on television. While Near is upset, Light tells Near that he should retreat (with a response from Near saying Light is Kira). The incident is too convenient and Near tells the rest of the group that Kira is among them and to watch out. As Near ponders what to do, he says that men are greedy. This definitely breeds his next action. In order to distract and lure the attackers, he drops loads of money. Even Demegawa tries to find where the money is coming from, and the police is dispatched. Near and his crew can escape through the main entrance in disguise now, and do.

After a long wait, Light and the others get a call from Near. Unafraid and seemingly content, Near tells them all that if anyone of them is suspicious of Kira being among them to free feel to call him at the previous restored phone line at any time. Aizawa is clearly suspicious and ponders some more… Light also has some time to think at night and sends Misa an emergency message. Apparently his plan will protect Misa and her happiness.

Aizawa undoubtedly calls Near and tells him about his suspicions but does not mention names. But Near does get a very important piece of information from Aizawa and that is that Chief Yagami and the suspected Kira are father and son. Later, Aizawa is frank with Light and tells him that he contacted Near and that he would like to put Light and Misa under surveillance. On the way to Misa’s, Mogi joins Aizawa and arrive to survey Misa. When she answers the door, Misa is wearing a pink, cutesy-skanky outfit, catching them offguard. They begin their search. They find nothing, and Mogi stays to watch over Misa.

In the meantime, Matsuda turns on Kira’s Kingdom. Light finds that Demegawa is no longer useful, and in watching Kira’s Kingdom we encounter a new character who kills those on the stage. This character has the Death Note, and is “eliminating” all those that Kira must have demanded. The new guy looks sooo cool with his pen!! But indeed he is a killer, he is Mikami. Now it doesn’t seem logical that Light or Misa are Kira because they have both been watched. Light reviews all this in his head. Misa sent the Death Note to Mikami as instructed by Light, also losing her memory of the notebook. Mikami Teru worships Kira from the bottom of his heart and will now do the bidding for his god, Kira.

Differences

  • Since the entire Mogi scene was cut out, Near’s idea of telling the task force about Mogi having a heart attack (thus making them move) was cut out.
  • That scene with Aizawa’s daughter wasn’t there.
  • Aizawa simply talks to Near here, in the manga, he calls him up and is then taken blindfolded to Near’s location.
  • Aizawa doesn’t tell Light he is going to watch him and Misa, as soon as he leaves Near’s place, they go straight to Misa.
  • In the anime, Mello doesn’t tell Matt to watch Misa as well (since he had suspected her as well). This happens in the manga.
  • Mikami’s answers to the form were moved to the end of the episode, while Light was reviewing his information actually before.

Ideas

  • Mikami’s Sakujo was amazingly done. He sounds so freaky, just as I would have imagined.
