Summary
The episode begins with the Task force enterting L’s hotel room. As they see him for the first time, there is silence as they look to eachother in disbelief, saying that this isnt the image they had of L. Starting with Lights father, Souichiro Yagami,director of the task force, they begin to introduce themselves. L fires a “shot” from his finger (“Bang!” xD), and explains to them that they should not carelessly give away thier names, as Kira can kill with only a face and a name. L Invites them to sit, but turn off thier cell phones. Still wary of L, they are slightly taken aback by this, though they comply. He tells them to take no notes. As they sit in silence, L starts to make tea….(very sugary tea i might add..:P) He tells them to adress him as Ryuuzaki from now on,just to be safe as one of the task force members suggests to withold all criminal information from the media, so Kira can’t kill anymore. Ryuuzaki says that Kira is immature, and a sore looser, and that civilians will die as a result of witholding the criminal information. To justify his reasoning, Ryuuzaki also admits to being immature and a bad looser as well. He explains that Kira only killed criminals until the broadcast of the fake L, Lind L Tailor, without hesitation. Then when he revealed he knew Kira was in Kanto, “He began to kill mainly japanese criminals, as if to say ‘so what?’ “. Kira only retaliated against L’s Provocations instead of backing down. “How do you think someone like that would react to having information taken from them?”. Ryuuzaki suggests using the media to thier advantage, by posting an information bar on television saying “1,500 agents from powerful contries are being sent to Japan to investigate.” Ryuuzaki thinks this will make Kira feel trapped, and get a big reaction, and possibly a big clue as to who he is, from Kira.
Ryuuzaki begins explaining that on Dec. 19, 5 days after the FBI agents enter Japan, Kira begins using criminals as tests, to see if he can not only kill from afar, but manipulate thier actions before death (see episode 4 summary). During the 5 days,said Ryuuzaki, kira must have discovered the FBI agents were in japan. Using this information, Ryuuzaki explains, Kira may have manipulated one or more of the FBI members before death to secure names and faces of all 12 agents in Japan through a document that was sent to all the agents. The scene cuts into Light in his room. He is trying to figure if he made any mistakes…The only one being he encounter with Ray Penber. Ryuk asks Light why he isnt writing in the death note or studying, and Light explains that its to late to study, and that between the 14th and 27th of december when he was most active, and the fact he met ray can never be revealed…the scene goes back to Ryuuzaki’s hotel, as he continues to explain. The gap in dates, 8 days, is to draw attention away from Kira, and draw away suspicion as he was being monitored. He then explains that Kira was under investiaction between the 14th and the 19th, between the FBI entering Japan and the tests that Kira made on the convicts. The team gets hopeful as Ryuzaki lays down the information gathered from the FBI. At the endof the scene, Yagami asks Ryuuzaki that by showing his face, hes already lost to Kira.
L says “This is the first time i’ve had to lay my life down for a contest..As people willing to risk our lives, lets show kira….that Justice will always prevail” With a confident smile. As Ryuuzaki looks through the window, he thinks to himself that there is one missing fact….at the same time,Light has decided that there is one hole in his plan,and if that fact is revealed…he is done for..The scene goes to a woman standing out in the wind.Ray Penbers Fianceee
The next scene starts with Light in his bed, Ryuk asking if he had finished studying. He is still thinking about the possibility of a hole in his plan, the risk he took at the bus jacking, and concludes that they cannot link Kira to that, since that the police and L only think kira kills by Heart attack.If they find out Kira can kill wby other methods than heart attakcs, and manipulate people befire there deaths, the plan would be ruined. Downstairs, Lights mother is asking Sayu, his sister, to take clothes to her father. Light inturupts and offers to do so.As he gets ready to head out, he takes a page of the Death Note out with him, “just in case”. The scene goes to Penber’s fiancee on the train, staring off in thaught, putting together pieces of the mystery…She remembers Ray saying he was going into Shinjuku. The same day, four innocent people died around that area in Shinjuku station, the day Ray the the other 11 FBI agents died. The deaths at Shinjuku and the Bus-jacking, by her rationalization, were not coincidences…they were both set up by Kira. She thinks that Kira can kill from moe than just heart attack.
Light enters police station, and he runs into Penbars Fiancee (though he dosnt know that yet) at the front, hearing her say she has important information on the Kira caase. Curious, he walks up, making conversation with the guard as he hands him his fathers clothes, saying he will crack the Kira case before L does. This sparks her interest. After hearing she must speak to the investigation team, he tells her his father is the chief investigator, and offers to get ahold of him for her. Since lights fathers cell phone is off, he offers to take a short walk with her to wait for his father to call back, luring her out of the headquarters. He starts to intruduce himself formally, trying to get her name…Maki Shoko. Ryuk starts laughing behind Light. He tries to get her to trust him, by saying his theory is that Kira can manipulate people before killing them. Plesantly suprised, Shoko exclaims that is her theory as well. Much to lights dismay, she also reveals that she thinks that Kira is able to kill with methods besides heart attack. Shoko reveals she was Penber’s Fiance, and also that she thinks Ray met Kira on the bus. She thinks Kira set up the bus jacking to find out the names of the FBI members. Realizing that Shoko is the key to L and the inestigation team finding out Light is Kira, he urges her more, gaining her trust still to get more information. To himself light thinks what might have happened if she had gotten to the police before he met her…but “It seems the Gods other than the Death gods, are on my side…” And the episode ends.

Ideas
- The first few scenes were a bit less confusing than that of the manga, and sorry if this is confusing. I think that information is important to know.
- Watching this i could almost feel the anxiety Light would have felt by finding out the hole he was worried about was so close to being exposed. The weather makes it eerie to, a bit foreshadowing….
