Summary
Continuing from the broadcast of Kira on TV, who threatens L to show his real face on TV in four days, Light lets out a small laugh while watching, knowing that the Kira on TV is apparently not him. Both Light and Ryuk are positive that the Kira on TV is another person owning a Shinigami’s Death Note. Light victoriously smiles; he does not doubt that this fake Kira is supportive of the real Kira’s actions.

Light, being sure of the fact that he is the only one who knows the existence of the fake Kira and his/her Shinigami eyes, decides to find some way to make the fake Kira to Light’s advantage. Light hopes that by using the fake Kira, he could prove that he is not Kira, or that L could be dead in four days. However, Light does not like that this fake Kira mainly destroys Kira’s reputation by using innocent people as sacrifice and sending low quality tapes. In order to prevent L from catching the fake Kira and getting a hold of the Death Note, Light decides to join the investigation team, so that he will be able to keep an eye on both L and the fake Kira, while desiring to find the fake Kira without him/her knowing Light’s face or name, and to control him/her.

We are then directed to the Kira investigations headquarter with Chief Yagami returning from the ICPD meeting. As Ryuuzaki (L) has predicted, everyone in the ICPD wants him to appear on TV in person. With ease, Ryuuzaki believes that they made a logical choice, because the police will never cooperate with Kira, and if they have to choose between L and the chief of police, they will choose to sacrifice L, the Kira provoker on TV a while back. Ryuuzaki thinks that if Kira does not know anything about him, he/she will not believe that Ryuuzaki is L, though instead of sacrificing other policemen, he will try his best to convince Kira that he is the real L if Kira comes to doubt him. Ryuuzaki wants to come up with a counter measure with the two days he has left before being forced to appear on TV, and he says that he does not want to die yet, that if he has to die, he would rather die by Kira’s hands, not someone controlled by Kira. This statement surprises the rest of the people in the investigation team. Ryuuzaki explains that the tapes sent for the broadcast are the work of a second Kira, and not the real, with a high probability. It is unlikely for two people working together in this case. Ryuuzaki points out that the victims that were killed during the broadcast were only critics, or convicted of minor offenses, and that another victim’s crime was only reported in a women’s magazine. These kinds of victims are different from the ones that Kira usually kills. Ryuuzaki comes up with an idea that it is likely that the fake Kira wants to prove his identity by avoiding killing the victims the real Kira might have killed before the tapes that were sent could be viewed. Everything that the fake Kira has done is very unlikely of the first Kira. The firt Kira would’ve sent the tapes with much better quality in relation to his juvenile mind, and that he should’ve known that killing innocent people would make the public detest him. The action of the second Kira directly conflicts with that of the first Kira, who slowly and cautiously introduces his ideals to the public.

It is then revealed that a set of unidentified fingerprints is found on both the envelope and the tape. Aizawa proposes the idea of the first Kira’s attempt to frame someone with the prints, but Ryuuzaki rebuts such idea, saying that the first Kira has no intention to do so. Ryuuzaki examines the fingerprint and shows that it is rather small, as though coming from a child or a woman. Chief Yagami reminds him that Light once suspected the first Kira to be a kid from a rich family, and Ryuuzaki does not deny that idea. Ryuuzaki believes that the first Kira is definitely smarter than the second. If he were the first Kira, he would want to find the imposter before the police, to analyze how useful he/she could be, and to eliminate him/her before being captured by the police. This is a battle between the real Kira and the investigators to find the fake Kira, and Ryuuzaki claims that the investigators have a chance to capture the first Kira in the process.

L jumps to the idea of requesting Chief Yagami to ask Light to help with the investigation whenever he can. Chief Yagami, being hopeful, asks if it means Light is free of suspicion. Ryuuzaki honestly answers “not yet”, but praises Light’s ability, saying that Light will be helpful in the process of capturing the second Kira. No one in the investigation objects to it. Ryuuzaki begins by saying that Light has a high sense of justice and duty, hence he will help. However, Ryuuzaki requests that their suspicion of the second Kira is kept as a secret from Light, and that they act like they think there is only one Kira in front of Light.

We now jump to a scene of the appearance a new Shinigami, talking to a girl, who seems to be the second Kira. We do not see a clear and precise appearance of this girl yet. The Shinigami asks her whether it is a good idea that the Death Note the Shinigami gave her is not used for herself.

The girl, dressed up in a Lolita-styled dress and with pigtails, walks on the streets while replying the Shinigami that she does use it for herself, because she wants to get to know Kira. She moves there to live by herself in order to do so, and she sent the tapes to the TV Station to catch Kira’s attention. She is confident that Kira is interested in her now, and that he may even want to meet her just as much as she does. The shinigami claims what the girl does as a dangerous game, because she may get killed. The girl, referring to herself as “Misa-chan”, says it will be fine because Kira is probably gentle to girls, and because she is stronger with her special eyes.
