Summary
This chapter starts out in Light’s room, with him and Rem discussing the specifics on Ryuga’s “execution date”.He states that the sooner he gets Ryuga out of the way,the better.But doubt clouds his mind as he also considers his suspicion level in the Kira case.Thus he claims that he shouldn’t rush on his decision and the earliest he’ll see L is tomorrow.Headded that he’ll think over it that night,and tell her the next day.Light asks Misa for her cell phone number,just in case anything happens, and she agrees.But when asking Light his number,he refuses and tells her that his cell is probably bugged.Quite on top of things,Misa whips out one of her phones and offers it to Light,telling him that she had two others anyways,then states that she’ll call and email him every day, but yet Light refuses again and tells her that he’ll only turn the phone on when ever he needs to contact Misa.

Misa, very hurt, asks Light when he’ll actually call her. He replies with, “Tomorrow will likely be L’s execution day…but either way I’ll contact you.”,and tells her to leave. Misa then starts rambling on about how “the time of love is just starting”. Light then puts his hands on her shoulders and kisses her, with the only intention of getting her out of his house. Misa smiles brightly and leaves the room without a fuss. He then tells Ryuk that the kiss was only to keep her infatuated with him.

The next day we then see L, with the rest of the Task Force, in deep thought while examining a small bag. After concluding his thoughts, he bluntly tells Soichiro Yagami that if he dies in the next few days, his son is Kira.

Soichiro, caught off guard, replies with the brilliant answer of “Huh?!”, then goes and asks L why he said that so suddenly, and gets the reply of: “If I die, I’m counting on you to keep things together. And if I die, the only one who will be able to get anything from Kira, meaning Light-Kun, will be you.” Soichiro then asks L a number of questions concerning how much L truly suspects Light of being Kira. L tells him that even he is not sure, and that if Kira and the “Second Kira” are now working together, he’s in deep trouble. He also adds that Yagami-San should not worry too much, because it’s a low percentage of suspicion against Light, and the reason why he’s insistent is because there are no other suspects. “This is a gamble.”

Later than day, we see Light walking in To-oh University with a young woman named Kiyomi Takada, with people grumbling in the back about how “the cool guy bags another one”. He walks with Takada for a while, until he sees Ryuga sitting on a bench, reading a book. He then politely asks Takada to leave so he can talk to Ryuga in private, and walks over to him. Light asked him why he was in public, since Ryuga was worried about being seen. He replied by telling Light that as long as he wasn’t Kira, then he’d be fine, adding that if he dies in the next few days, that he told Yagami-San, the Task Force, and the other L’s to assume that ‘Light Yagami is Kira!’ Light, quite startled, thinks quietly to himself, until being interrupted by Ryuzaki saying “Oh?Didn’t I tell you?I’m not the only one who calls himself L.” Then goes on to say that he remembered Light telling him that he missed him at school, so he dropped by for a visit. Light then concludes that Ryuga was bluffing about this ‘L is a group’ story.But he then starts to question his plan to kill Ryuga that day. Suddenly…a voice is heard calling “Light!!There you are!!” It turns out to be no other than the model herself, Misa Amane. She explains that she had a shoot near To-oh and wanted to visit. Light turns to Misa, horror struck, since Ryuga was right beside him and didn’t want him to know about her…at least, not yet. She goes on to say about how ‘cool and unique’ Light’s friend, Ryuga, was. So she introduces her self, and he does the same. Light pauses and recalls that since Misa has the Shinigami eyes, she can see Ryuga’s true name, so he can kill him when ever he pleases.

Misa then asks “Huh? Hideki Ryuga?”. Since she has the Shinigami eyes, she clearly saw it was an alias. Light quickly grabs Misa’s shoulder and helps her out by saying that it’s an odd name to have, especially since there is a famous star named Hedeki Ryuga. She gets what Light was trying to do, and backs down a little. Light then notices that Ryuga is smiling, though even if he somehow did expect Misa to be the second Kira, he would be in absolutely no position to be smiling. Ryuga then blurts out “Yagami-kun…I’m so jealous.”

He leans in with his finger in his mouth adding how big of a fan he was of Misa’s, which lead to Misa happily saying “Really?!I’m so happy!” With Light totally lost in this conversation, other students in To-oh see them, and Misa’s popularity grows.

Suddenly Misa yells, “Hey!Who just touched my butt?” and with that Ryuga quickly jerks his hand behind his back and yells, “How imprudent!That’s unforgivable!I shall catch the culprit!” Almost right after that, Misa’s manager comes up and drags her by the hand off campus. Ryuga starts to walk off to class, Light telling him he’ll be right there. After walking a short distance, Light pulls out the cell that Misa gave him and and smiles evily.

“Goodbye…Ryuga.This has been alot of fun.I’m glad to get to kill you myself.”
