Summary
Continuing from the Shinigami Eyes offer, Light tells Ryuk that the deal would defintely be very helpful, but it’s absolutely out of the question. The reason being that if Light has to create a Eutopia, he would have to maintain control over it for a long time, however if the deal lengthened his lifespan he would have considered it. He tells Ryuk that he should know that, making Ryuk say that it was just his duty to tell Light so he wouldn’t have to hear any complains about it later, when he mentioned it too late. Light makes him fun of him a bit, saying that he is already too late, since he should have mentioned it when he first picked up the DEATH NOTE. Ryuk of course, thinks this amusing since Light has no fear of a shinigami, and really is taking a liking to him, when Light asks him if he has anything else to tell him. Ryuk assures him that he has nothing else to mention (at least, he thinks so). Light states it is too bad since he would have considered it if he could get wings instead, to fly through the sky like ancient times, and Ryuk takes it literally saying that everyone would see him then, where Light tells him he was just kidding.
Light continues to joke around with Ryuk, saying that making deals like that would make him become a shinigami like him, as Ryuk tells him not to worry since Light is already a really good shinigami.
Light thinks this amusing, but gets a bit angry since he doesn’t like to be compared to a shinigami since he is using the
DEATH NOTE for humans. The wonderful conversation, however, is cut short when Light says he has figured out how he can get the name of the guy tailing him, and there is still time to do it. Ryuk is a bit confused, so Light repeats the rule about writing the specific details of death, and he wants to check how specific these details can be, since he wants to take advantage of the guy watching him this way. Soon enough, Yagami Soichiro gets a call at the police station about six more heart attacks, however, they all acted strangely before dying this way. One drew a devil star on the wall with his own blood from cut fingers, the other left a strange note (refer to hit list for this), and the strangest was one who escaped jail and went to a nearby restroom. This data was sent to L, who looks at them and concludes that perhaps Kira can manipulate the actions before death as well. At this, he contacts the police and tells him that Kira might be conducting a test with the criminals, but what he discovered with the expirement he doesn’t know.
Zooming back to Light, Light states that he discovered that he can use the DEATH NOTE this way, repeating the three scenarios he set up (as mentioned above). The other three, however, did not take place because they were unreasonable. One was to die in front of the eiffel tower at 6pm, making it impossible to do so since a person in Japan couldn’t possibly do that, second, to draw L’s face, which didn’t happen since he didn’t know it,
and finally to write “I know L distrusts the police,” which he didn’t do because he didn’t have any thoughts he had. Hence, Light concludes that even with the
DEATH NOTE you can’t do the impossible, but setting restrictions, you have many things you can do. In either case, he says that these were just tests, and now the outcome of the next test will be good, since L and the police won’t catch it, and will be concentrating on the others’ victims drawings and notes even though they are pointless. L, sitting in the black room, is thinking still about the expirement when he sees that there is some kind of message written in the note. At home, Light looks in the morning paper and sees the results about the killer being killed with his own knife, and a whole story attached. Light now sits down, and says the fun will now begin, and uses the marijuana addict as the victim, scribbling in his notebook. Next, he gets his phone, to try a few people, and when Ryuk questions it, he says that he’s quite popular with the ladies. Next, thing, you see a girl in bed picking up a phone uttering Light’s name.
