Summary
Souichirou and Mello are standing face to face with each other. While the rest of the police force is waiting, Light wants his dad to write down Mello’s name on the Death Note. Mello was able to sense Souichirou’s hesitation when he told him (Mello) to put his hands up and get under arrested, Mello concluded that Souichirou has never killed a person before.
Just when Mello is thinking of what to do, he notices one of his gang members is still alive. Mello mentions that he has no intention of killing Souichirou, but because he has allied with Kira to capture him. Mello tells him that he should have written his name when he had the chance, but now he doesn’t because it’s too late. Souichirou finally notices Jose, but it was too late. Jose picked up his gun and fired 14+ bullets into him. Mello quickly steals Souichirou’s helmet so his face couldn’t be seen by others. Meanwhile, Jose is attempting to take the Death Note out of Souichirou’s tight hand. He gives up and is ready to shoot and aiming at his face, but the other police forces comes and shoots down Jose. But they did not kill Mello, instead they, just like Souichirou, tells Mello to give up and cast out the bomb switch. Light is wondering why everyone is being such a fool. Mello, seeing no other choice, clicks on the switch.
The building explodes, and for a second, Light thinks it was a suicide bomb. He quickly asks if the team is okay. Mogi first answers then Ide came next. Since Mogi and Ide safe, Light thought Mello is probably safe as well. Light asks about the rest of the team and the notebook, and we see Matsuda is okay even though he says he is not. Mello seems to have escaped and Light is pretty annoyed that they didn’t kill him sooner. We see one of the forces explain how they were able to get inside the room. Light obviously doesn’t care about those and asks if they have seen Mello, so they could write on the Death Note. But due to Mello’s quickness earlier, he had stolen Souchirou’s helmet before the team was able to barge in the room.
Because only Souchirou has seen Mello’s face, Light asks if he and Aizawa is okay, along with the two other criminals (Roy and Skiar) downstairs. It seems Aizawa and Souchirou is unconscious with Roy and Skiar dead. Souchirou’s had his neck shot and is bleeding badly. Despite that, he is still holding on the notebook, not letting anyone getting it. Light commands Mogi or Ide to quickly drive Souchirou and Aizawa to Marvin Hospital, the nearest one. Light talks about how Mello probably have left the building already, and even if he was caught on the camera, he has a helmet on so it will be useless. Light’s only hope is to have his dad write down Mello’s name.
After that, Mogi will be taking Souchirou and Aizawa to the hospital. Ide, however, will be going back to Light with the Death Note Souchirou had, and the one that took back from Mello. Ide asks what to do with Mello, Light responds by saying he’ll get police to look for him because he has killed the NPA. Even though Light had said that, he wants to kill Mello by using the Death Note. Light thinks Mello knows the fake rules, because the shinigami, Shidou, most likely had told Mello the fake rules. He recalls earlier that Ryuuku points out that Shidou isn’t very bright. With that said, Light believes Mello is a dangerous character and will have to force his own dad to write on the Death Note. Now, we see Shidou and Ryuuku flying on top of Mogi’s car. Shidou can’t take it back because Souchirou is holding on to it. Ryuuku questions why he didn’t take it back when Kal Snider died earlier. Shidou wonders why Ryuuku says that since it was him who told Shidou to just watch without moving.
Now it takes us to the hospital. We see the doctor suggesting to call their family to see his last moments. Matsuda, being rude, wonders if they could get here in time from Japan. Ide, senses the rudeness, tells him to stop. Light is trying to act more natural and keeps yelling for his dad not to die. Nevertheless, Souchirou is still alive and is able to see Light’s lifespan, meaning he is not a owner of a Death Note. This is because Light has given up his ownership but still has Misa’s Death Note tucked inside him so he doesn’t lose his memories.
Light continues shaking his dad, and yelling for him, telling him that he is a fool while tears are dropping from his eyes. Matsuda, who is obviously sad as well, yells for Light to stop. After some time, when everyone is calmed down, Light tells them to leave the room to talk somewhere else. Light asks if there is another Shinigami who possess this notebook, Shidou says he is here, but no one could hear him because he doesn’t have his own notebook. So then Shidou touches the notebook and everyone else touches it as well. Light is giving him back the notebook because he doesn’t want Shidou telling the team something he doesn’t want him to say. Shidou says he’ll return to the Shinigami’s world once he gets the Death Note he dropped, just what Light has expected. Light says that only one notebook is enough for the Kira case, so he gives back the Death Note to Shidou. Shidou seems happy and flies away. And we end the chapter with Ryuuku saying that whoever used the Death Note becomes miserable. And that Souchirou hasn’t used the Death Note and at his last moment, still believed his son wasn’t Kira, and most likely went to Heaven happy.
