Summary
When we last left our protagonist (.or is it antagonist?) he had geniously used a piece of the Death Note to both find out his followers name (which was Raye Penber – Surprisingly and American FBI agent) and kill the bad-guy. The beginning of this chapter starts with both Raye and Light standing outside the bus, both looking a bit shook up. The F.B.I agent realizes he could be in some trouble, and so he tells Light that he is in fact on a top-secret mission in Japan, and not to let anyone know that Light had met up with him. Light agrees and Raye leaves before the police show up.

Being the genius Light is, he realizes that if the police were to realize that Raye and Light had talked, L would definitely hear about it. Light smugly brushes of the situation, realizing that the police will only record it as a simple accident. Prepared to dump his date, Light is surprised to realize she still wants to go to Space land, and drags Light along with her, while Ryuk “hyuks” about women being tough in difficult situations in the human world too.

We leave Light be for a little while, and follow Raye Penber from the scene. He approaches a large hotel, apparently where he is staying during the investigation. Once inside his room, a young brunette woman, who is happy to seem him return, greets him. Raye slumps in a chair, and the girl realizes that he is drained of energy. Asking what happened, the girl is surprised to hear that Raye was caught up in the bus jacking. He explains to her that some criminal who had robbed a bank earlier had now tried to hijack the bus. She seems to be thinking about something when Raye reveals that the man was killed when a car struck him as he attempted to leave the bus. The young woman asks if Raye thought it was really an accident that the man died, considering he was tracking a possible Kira suspect that day. Raye shakes his head, and reveals to us that the woman used to be an excellent F.B.I agent, however now she was just his fiance (dun-dun-dun!) and nothing else. She was no longer on the bureau anymore. The woman seems upset at this statement, and Raye continues by saying that she only accompanied him to Japan so that they could meet her parents. She dismisses her outbreak by some excuse along the lines of “an old habit” and the two of them discuss their parents..

We jump to Light in his room. He is sitting on his desk, with the Death Note open and Ryuk looking over his shoulder. Ryuk asks if Light is going to write the F.B.I agents name in the Note, but Light reveals that Raye won’t be put in the Death Note for another week. Then he smiles and says he’s going to use some criminals to mess with L a bit more.

Speaking of L, the genius detective is pondering over the hidden meeting in the first suicide note, when Watari calls him on his laptop. Watari informs L that another prisoner has left a strange suicide note. Eager to read it, L has Watari scan it and send it to his computer. It Reads:

Gods can’t help me. I’m sick
Of waiting. I want
Death. I’m ready for it.

L immediately realizes the hidden message connects with the first, and reads “L do you know gods of death” Hesitantly, L wonders whether or not Kira is suggesting that shinigami actually exist.

We then flash forward one week to Watari in the N.P.A office, as an agent reveals that Kira has murdered several F.B.I agents. Now the N.P.A know that the F.B.I was probing them. Watari then receives a call on his cell phone from the F.B.I director, who demands to speak with L. He’s put through to L, and tells him that 8 of the agents are dead, and he can no longer reach the remaining agents.

The director is certain that it was Kira who killed them all. L knows that Kira needs a name and a face in order to kill someone, so he asks the director if anyone had access to that information. Unfortunately the director reveals that yesterday there was a request from an agent for the names and faces of every agent, and the file was sent to each agent. L knows that Kira must have come into contact with one of those agents. The director gives more bad news to L as he says that the F.B.I is terminating their investigation in Japan. The deaths of the 12 agents must have been too overwhelming for the F.B.I. A secretary tells the director that Superintendent Yagami is on the other line. He then tells L that he will in fact reveal that it was L’s idea to probe the N.P.A.

The N.P.A then realize that it was L who called the probing. Word gets out that Kira murdered the F.B.I agents, and the police start worrying as to whether or not that they can be killed next! Out of fear, several N.P.A employees quit immediately. Angry at this new development, L receives another suicide message from a prisoner in Japan. Hoping to get some sort of clue, L is further angered to find the ending of the message:

Love I’ve never known. And dessert is always
Apples? This is no life. I’m better off dead.

“L Do you know Gods of Death love apples?” L is determined that by killing the 12 F.B.I agents, Kira has left a very large clue. Meanwhile Light is smiling away that L is going to make the next move.

We then see Raye Penber’s fiance, she is crying.and reveals that Kira murdered her husband Raye!
