Summary
The confrontation with Near makes Light worry quite a bit; the deeply suspicious boy detective is about to cause trouble, and Light can no longer rely on Misa.

While watching the video records of Demegawa’s program, Light spots a tall, seemingly calm and reserved black-haired man in the crowd of Kira’s faithful followers; there’s a number plate on his suit, and Light decides to check his data out – for no apparent reason at all. According to Demegawa’s files, the man’s name is Mikami Teru, and he’s a public prosecutor from Kyoto prefecture; Mikami doesn’t reveal much about himself in the questionnaire, but states openly that Kira is his God…

Aizawa keeps thinking about Near’s words: the possibility of Light’s being Kira doesn’t leave his mind. All of a sudden, Near comes in contact: he announces with a smirk that Mogi is no longer among the living, and that he’ll send his body to the HQ as soon as possible. Light gasps and wonders if Mogi’s sudden death has something to do with Misa, but then realizes that this must be Near’s trap, because Near clearly wants Light’s men to suspect him. Near grins and says confidently that those who believe Kira might be in the HQ can get in touch with him; Aizawa, whose distrust in Light keeps growing deeper and who guesses that Mello and Near are somehow connected, feels an even stronger urge to make his own movement.

No longer able to wait calmly, Light contacts Misa and tells her to get rid of all suspicious communication tools, to send the Death Note to a given address – and to give up the ownership of the notebook, too. Misa feels both surprised and happy at the same time: much as she wants to help Light, her true dream is to be his normal wife… and so she gladly prepares to fulfill his order.

Light keeps pondering about his situation and the extent of Mello’s knowledge about the notebook’s powers; eventually, he announces that it’s better for his team and the SPK to cooperate, so everyone is allowed to get in touch with Near.

Near quietly notes to himself that Light cannot really help saying this, now that the situation is against him in many ways. Aizawa decides to talk to Near while being fully prepared to sacrifice himself, seeing how Light may very well be Kira; he figures that, if anything, his death might give Near proof about Light’s true identity as Kira. But when Aizawa calls Near, he learns something truly shocking: Mogi is alive and ready to talk to him – and naturally, this twist is also a part of Near’s plan; apparently, Mogi’s fake death was supposed to trigger Aizawa’s actions, and the man cannot help but see the effectiveness of Near’s extreme idea.

Meanwhile, in Kyoto, Mikami Teru receives the message from Light and the notebook; a faint smile forms on his lips as he burns the secret letter. “Kira… God,” he says, and so the mysterious story of Kira takes a new – unexpected and unpredictable – turn.
