Summary
The chapter begins as Takada is talking on the phone to light. She wonders what he wanted to ask her, while Raito thinks to himself what he might say and do so he might not look suspicious and use Takada. Raito answers Takada, (obviously flattering her) that she is a woman that attracts the attention of everyone across the globe, and when asked if that is the reason he called her, he denies it, making up an excuse that he was too busy, and that it was “destiny” that he should talk to her (sound familiar =/?).

Takada, of course, knew that Light was pretty sure that Light worked for the NPA, and asks him anyways, and Raito of course, responds in the positive. He tells her that he has something important to talk about with her regarding the world’s situation and Takada agrees that it won’t hurt to hear him out. Raito, the smart guy that he is, tells her that he doesn’t want to talk on the telephone and would rather meet her somewhere. Takada, with no doubt, tells him that her guards follow her everywhere and it might be a problem for her to meet with him. Raito quickly tells her that he can reserve a hotel room and that she can meet him in there, and refuse to let the guards enter with her. Takada affirms this to be true, saying she does have some privacy, and that she’ll just keep them waiting outside.

Raito then asks her what time would be good for her, and after Takada explains that she has to stick close to the station in order to get Kira’s message except for at night, Raito tells her that he will reserve a room and call her to meet that night. Meanwhile, at the airport, Mello watches Amane Misa very closely, and observes that she is going back to Japan. He also sees Mogi, and reflects how he hasn’t heard from Mat, since he was supposed to be watching Mogi.

As soon as he speaks those words, Mello gets a call from Matt, and tells him that Mogi is at LAX. Matt then tells Mello that he was tricked and that they probably paid off the delivery man who delivers the daily food and left in the delivery truck. Furthermore, that he himself had seen the delivery man counting bills joyfully, and when he went into the room it was empty. Matt hadn’t noticed it since they managed to dodge all the cameras in the windows and doorways by hiding themselves behind the door of the delivery truck. Mello thinks how he told him specifically not to let his guard down, and tells Mat that he is going to go to Japan after Mogi and that he (Matt) can meet him there later. In the meantime, Matsuda is excited that the new headquarters is already working on the day they retrn, and some other crap like that, while Light muses that only Mogi is left with Misa— who should be coming while covering their tracks. Aizawa tells Matsuda that Light has an appointment with Takada tonight, while Matsuda says that only he could do that so fast. Light tells them that it worked out well, and that they only need to search the mode of communication between Kira and her in order to catch him.

Aizawa of course, begins to remind Light, before Light cuts him off to finish the sentence, that Raito will enter the hotel room first, and that they are free to set up cameras and things to watch him. Aizawa, apologetically tells him that he’ll do that. Light now reminds him that Takada is a Kira follower and he will only be Pretending to be one to gain her trust, and the others affirm that they already know that. Light tells them, that now that THAT is settled, they should reserve a room, but he is quickly corrected, as Tacky will be on T.V. and they can watch the 6-o’clock news and prepare until 8-o’clock, and Light agrees that they should watch carefully. Hence the news report starts.

On the news Takada introduces herself and everything like normal. While she does this, Light reflects that Mikami is doing much better than he had expected, but that Mikami is also judging people who commit crime without ill intent, and hence he needs to leave the role of Kira to him and just get in touch with Takada to use her. Meanwhile, back on the news, Takada speaks of “Kira’s message”, which is that he will not allow any people who don’t do anything in society to live either, suprising the group, as one of them blurts out “Is she saying Slackers will be killed?” Raito agrees with Mikami (in his thoughts) that slackers are of no benefit to society, but that it is much to early to do this right now. Matsuda and Ide meanwhile talk discuss the message, Matsuda saying that it is all wishful thinking, but Ide correcting him that Kira is forcibly making the world into reality. Matsuda then reflects that if he were able to do so, that would make Kira a god. After the small conversation, they say they need to reserve a room.

In the hotel room, the cameras and everything get set up as the 9-oclock news is over. Raito then calls Takada on her cell phone, telling her to meet him in room 2501 on the Teitoh Hotel. Takada tells her guards that she is going to the hotel to meet a friend of hers, and that they can guard her as far as the enterance, but she won’t allow them to check out her friend, to which they agree. Upon entering the room, Light says that he has wanted to meet her, and that she should have a seat. He immediately tells her that he is going to be direct, and explains that he wants her to make an appeal to Kira on the behalf of the NPA as he the current NPA wants to co-operate with Kira and not oppose it, since the world has changed so much.

That Light only wants to do justice to the world, which is another main reason he wanted to meet her. As Takada is speechless, Light continues to work his charms, saying that she isn’t a mere journalist. Matsuda talks some nonsense on the other end (just saying exactly what Light said about getting messages through her and stuff), and then Ide comments that they finished talking but are just staring at each other. Matsuda quickly comments that he wouldn’t know since Ide probably never fell in love before, and that Light and Tacky are old friends from schools and they meet again in a suit. Suddenly, Aizawa gets annoyed and silences them. Back at the suit, Takada says that she is leaving now, and Raito goes to open the door for her, and asks her if he can meet her again tommorow. When Takada says that Kira probably won’t reply to the appeal tommorow, he says that it’s not what he means. Matsuda, on the other line, comments that those are tactics only Light could use XD, while the clueless Ide questions further. And the last panel with Matsuda stating the tactics begin with hitting it off with Tacky.

Unanswered Questions
So what’s next…

  1. How will Mikami respond to the appeal? And what exactly will Tacky say?
  2. How far will Raito go to make his connection with Takada? What about Misa?!
  3. What are the next moves? What is Aizawa doing through all this?
