Luxaky finally arrives at the third crime scene past three pm. He apologizes to Misora, which she cynically replies is alright, since she already started. In truth, Luxaky doesnt sound sincerely sorry about being over an hour late. Luxaky gets on all fours, which still gives Misora the creeps, even after three days.
Misora tells Luxaky that the fourth murder will happen on August 22nd. He asks her why she thinks that, but she hasnt even figured it out herself and lies that after speaking with Luxaky, thats the conclusion shes come to. Misora mentions that the killer wiped up fingerprints, but doesnt wipe up any blood. She also comments that the key point of this crime scene is the body, since its missing its left arm and right leg.
They discuss the clues from the other crime scenes and how the left arm still is missing. They look at the crime scene photos and how the body is spread eagle (minus the missing limbs). Luxaky says that they should check the room over carefully since they have so much time and he asks Misora again why she believes the next crime will occur on the 22nd. This goes into a long explanation about dates, numbers, and the letter B.
Misora explains the third crime happened on August 13th, so taking the number 13, it looks like a B. Luxaky says he doesnt see the connection to August 22nd, so she goes into how the first crime was on 7/31 (again 3+1) and for the 22nd, it could be split into 2+2, then 3+1, which would then read B. Through this logic and important dates, 22nd, 31st, 4th, 13th all somehow equaling 13/B and the importance that the first crime scene started with four straw dolls. However, Luxaky still sees some mistakes in her reasoning. They start discussing the kanji numbers, but in the end decide that the August 22nd date is correct.
Misora and Luxaky then discuss about the next victim possibly being a QQ. However, Misora is set on the next victim being a BB, mostly because L had said the murderer was B.
She mentions to Luxaky the criminal being B, due to amount of data they collected. Luxaky agrees, shes 99 percent correct. Since the victims had the initials BB, he deduces that the criminal must be BB as well. They then discuss that this is a win or lose situation, because this is a fight.
Mello begins to describe what kinds of cases L usually took on. There has to be more than ten victims, or it has to involve a million dollar figure. In the LA BB Serial Killer Case, L was battling his own dead copy. He describes how Bs whereabouts were unknown from May of that year, and L was watching various cases around the world to see if there would be any clues to finding him.
L is the objective of everyone at Wammys House.
And it is to surpass that objective.
To overcome him.
To crush him.
It is the same, for M, for N, for B.
M as the challenger, N as the successor, B as the criminal.
Back to the crime scene, Misora takes a break and makes some coffee in the kitchen on the first floor (with a normal amount of sugar in each cup). She carries the coffee on a tray back to Backyards room and uses her belt buckle to open the door handle (since her hands are full).
Misora is surprised to see Luxaky on the floor lying spread eagle and wonders what he is trying to accomplish. When she tries to speak to him, he says hes a corpse. Misora doesnt understand.
I am a corpse. I cannot answer. Just like a corpse.
She begins to understand his reasoning and then realizes something. Shes not sure what it is exactly, but it happened when she first opened the door and saw Luxaky lying on the ground. She thinks about everything in the room and comes to the hole where the straw doll was nailed on the wall. She thinks that if the straw doll was still on the wall, that would have been the first thing she would have seen, not Luxaky.
Misora tries to jump over Luxaky with the coffee tray, but accidentally steps on his stomach with the full weight of her boot. She apologizes to him, and then goes over to the table to look at the crime scene information.
Luxaky crawls over to her asking he whats wrong and she tells him about the straw dolls and how ones eye would go directly to them if they were still on the wall. She thinks about how at all the crime scenes, one of the dolls was on the wall directly opposite of the door. Past that, though, she cannot figure out what it means.
Misora and Luxaky begin discussing the closed room and the Needle and thread tricks. Luxaky thinks shes on to something, because the straw dolls would distract the person from the corpse, making them look at something else. If the culprit didnt want them to look at something else, there would be no need to put the straw dolls in such a place. However, Luxaky tells her that they really need to concentrate on the message the culprit left behind. Misora apologizes for wasting their precious time.
I would rather you apologize for stepping on me, Ms. Misora.
Oh, yes, of course.
Are you really sorry If so, then you wouldnt mind me asking you to do something for me, right
Misora is a little hesitant, but agrees. Luxaky asks her to lie on the ground like Backyard, so he can get some inspiration. She lies on the ground and he asks her if shes found anything. She says no.
Luxaky sits in a chair (typical L fashion) and begins to drink the coffee. She thinks hell complain about the coffee, but he doesnt. Instead, he says, Whew. Hot coffee sure stings my injured stomach.
Misora then begins to ask about the first case, where the victim was stripped of clothes, had a message etched into his skin, and then had the clothes replaced. With this third victim, she thinks about how hard it would have been to replace the clothes.
They discuss the missing limbs, and Luxaky asks if he can tell a story about another case he worked on.
In this case, the victim had been stabbed in the chest and their left ring finger had been cut off and taken away. Luxaky asks what she thinks of this. Misora thinks its because of a ring, like a engagement ring. Luxaky agrees its for monetary reasons. However, Misora points out there is no reason to steal a whole arm for a ring, and Backyard was single. He points out that there are other things to steal than rings, like bracelets.
Misora goes over this in her head, and stretches her left arm towards the ceiling. On her ring finger is an engagement ring from Raye. She still cant get over trying to steal an arm for just a ring or bracelet. Her sleeve then falls revealing her silver watch, a birthday present from Raye.
Misora asks Luxaky if Backyard was left handed or right handed. She was right-handed. Misora continues to discuss her ideas about the watch and that the watch wasnt his objective, but a message. After discussing some points with Luxaky, she realizes that the body makes five points (head, arms, legs). Minus the two missing limbs, there are three points left, each of a different length (as Luxaky points out).
This makes Misora think of the hands on a clock, and how each represent one of the hands on an analog clock. The head is the hour hand, the arm is the minute hand, and the leg is the seconds hand. She gets up off the floor and looks at the crime scene photo. From this, she deduces that the time is 12:45:20. However, Luxaky isnt quite so sure and points out that 12:45:20 isnt the only way to read it. Depending on which way the photo is turned, it could be 6:15:45, or 3:00:35, or 9:30:05.
Misora realizes her mistake and thinks about the room and wishes there was something on the walls to show a hint. She looks at the walls and asks Luxaky which way north is. He points out that North doesnt necessarily mean 12. She thinks more about the walls, and the straw dolls. Dolls, dolls, dolls, which brings her to the stuffed animals of the room.
She tells him that she has figured it out, since the number of dolls around the walls would equal the time. Around the room, there are 12 dolls against one wall, 9 against another, but only two and five against the other walls (Luxaky points out). However, Misora counters that if the straw dolls were still there, the numbers would add up to three and six.
Looking at the photo again, Misora declares that the time will be 6:15:45.
