Mello puts together an afterword about the case, saying there isnt much more to talk about. He discusses about how Ls own copy challenged him. An issue of winning and losing. A battle. In the case of detectives, the ones who come to the conclusion the quickest wins. In the Kira case, L won because he figured out who Kira was, but lost when he was killed by Kira. In this case with Beyond Birthday, L lost because he couldnt have solved the case without Bs help.
He continues to discuss about the luck of having Naomi Misora on the case, and her importance of working with L. In this way, Beyond Birthday was not trying to compete against Misora, but rather with L. Thats why he named himself Luxaky Luee. Also, by naming himself L, he meant to fight to the finish. As Luxaky, he helped Misora figure out his clues, testing her skills. With Misora, she worked well, since she could figure out the messages (since Luxaky couldnt do it all himself).
Regarding the Pasadena condo complex, he knew that there was two BBs that lived there. With the rooms, it really didnt matter which room he was in, but it just so happened that one was occupied by a man, and another by a woman.
And Luxaky planned his suicide. He locked the door, nailed the straw doll on the wall, broke the sprinklers, cut the wires on the smoke alarm, wiped the room of fingerprints, poured the gasoline, and lit himself on fire. He had chosen the fourth victim to be himself. Everyone would eventually find out that Luxaky Luee was a fake name, and find out his real name of Beyond Birthday. He had always had a disguise on in front of Misora, and there were no photos of him, so no one would know that he was B from Wammys House. Even though he wasnt trying, he needed to protect the fact that he was B of Wammys House.
Beyond Birthday didnt plan to leave a message at the fourth crime scene, because there wasnt any reason. Plus it would make the Los Angeles BB Serial Killer Case unsolvable. In the case of looking for something that should be there, but isnt, it would translate to L cannot find something that isnt there, he continues to look for the missing B. By burning himself, L wouldnt be able to figure out that the last victim was B himself, and L would continue to look for him all his life.
L would lose. B would win. The copy would surpass the original or was supposed to.
However, B never considered Misora, only concentrating on L. Mello describes all of Misoras discoveries with the clues, the straw dolls, the deadbolt locks, etc. He also goes into how the deadbolt locks were turned using the straw dolls and some thread. This was because the dolls and the deadbolt were at the same height, something Misora realized. If Misora never realized how this trick worked, his plan would have succeeded.
Also, Mello tells about a mistake that Luxaky made: telling Misora about the Capoeira. She used this technique on the attacker, so Beyond Birthday made a mistake. This was the only mistake Beyond Birthday made. B lost to Naomi Misora, as did L.
In the end, Beyond Birthday was sent to a high security hospital. He set himself on fire about the same time Misora got to room 404. Although he thought he would die before the ambulance got there, he survived. Our poor senpai. Having to live with shame, Beyond Birthday probably wanted to die.
Here Mello concludes that he is finished, although he thinks that of the three great cases L told him about, the last of the first generation of Wammys House, X to Z, will tell the stories. One about the Europe Bio-Terror Case, and how L met Wammy at the age of eight, and managed to avoid World War III with the Winchester Bombing Suspect Case.
Misora would go back to work in September and her actions on the LA BB Case were not a problem with her employer. At the end of August, in her bank account, she received payment from an unknown company, but she didnt need to think about who it was from.
It is September 1st and Misora walks to the subway station from her house. Today is the day she will be reinstated. After Bs arrest, she received a call from L that explained all the details (Bs connection, trying to surpass L, etc.). She thinks that Beyond Birthday was truly a strong person, for betting his life on such a purpose, and remembers his sitting position while he bit his nail. His strength is something that Misora cant duplicate
Which brings her eye to a young man at the station gate who looks like he hasnt ever slept in his life, like he has too much to think about. He wears a long-sleeved white shirt with blue jeans, and sneakers without any socks. Misora thinks that shes met him somewhere before, reminiscent of Beyond Birthday, but if BB was a copy, this guy would be the original.
She decides to just walk by him, and when she decides to talk to him, the young man jumps towards her, or rather looks like hes going to hug her. She manages to avoid his attack and kick him down the flight of stairs that lead to the trains. Misora thinks that shes gone too far. She runs down the stairs to see if the boy is OK and he just responds, I see the real thing is really different from a video but Ive learned a lot.
Misora doesnt understand and thinks he may have hit his head. She asks if he can stand and offers her hand to him. Thank you very much, he says, taking her hand.
Are you hurt Does it hurt anywhere
Im fine. Thank you very much.
Although he is already standing, he doesnt let go of her hand. It feels more like hes shaking her hand.
Youre a very kind person, he tells her, smiling, and finally lets go of her hand. Then he slowly walks up the stairs. Misora finally comes to her senses and acts like a FBI officer. The boy turns around, sucking on his thumb.
Misora tells him to come with her for the crime he has commited, by attacking her. She asks for his name. Please call me Ryuuzaki (Luxaky). He says it as if in memory of someone.
Two years after the arrest of Beyond Birthday, on January 21st, 2004, in a California State Prison, Beyond Birthday dies of an unexplained heart attack.
